As many already know, Commissioner Cupid was involved in a late night incident on July 14 involving Precinct 2 officers. I have read the information that has been made available about the incident and have formed my own opinion. She isn't going to like it and frankly I don't care.
I will give a brief synopsis of the incident. Cupid was allegedly at the Wingate Hotel on South Service Road in the Six Flags area around 0130 hours completing studies for an upcoming bar exam. She left the parking lot and was followed by an undercover officer looking for entering auto suspects due to increased crime in the area. The officer ran the plate on Cupid's vehicle and once getting the return from the dispatcher discontinued surveillance per a Precinct 2 supervisors instructions. The complete incident is listed in detail by Director Heaton in his response to a seven page rant from Commissioner Cupid about the incident.
It is no secret that the Six Flags area, or any area in south Cobb for that matter, is prone to crime and violence. This area is by far the worst area in Cobb County and officers working that particular precinct face a huge challenge trying to curb crime in that area. On that particular night the officers and supervisors took a proactive approach to try and stop some of the criminal activity plaguing the area. What the officer did in this incident was good ole fashioned police work. The officer did nothing to provoke the response that Commissioner Cupid penned in her memo to county leaders bashing the police officer and the police department. It appears what really happened is the commissioner was caught in a high crime area known for drugs and prostitution etc. at an hour that is suspicious to the common and reasonable person. Perhaps she felt compelled to bash the officer and the department to draw attention away from the fact that she was in an area at an hour of night that would cast her in a negative light if it was discovered she was found leaving a hotel in a high crime area at that time of night.
It appears that the commissioner wants the streets of Cobb left to the criminals to do as they wish. She obviously doesn't want the police department doing their job to stop crime in an area that suffers from a high crime rate. I found it funny in her rant that she said she suggested she was being profiled and then she goes on to profile the "great citizens" at the QT where she went for safety to call 911. If you haven't read her memo about the incident you should. It is definitely worth the laugh. Its piled full of contradictions and inaccuracies. It is abundantly clear that Commissioner Cupid is not as educated as she makes herself out to be and is largely misinformed on law enforcement in Cobb.
The officers of the Cobb County Police Department are the best in this country. Those officers pride themselves in being professionals who do a hard, if not impossible, job of keeping Cobb County safe. The officers particularly in precinct 2 know all to well how hard that job can be at times without a commissioner brow beating them for doing their job. I hope those officers keep their heads up and brush off the comments from Commissioner Cupid. She stated if she wasn't a commissioner she would move out of Cobb. Well.......Bye.
I believe I might have a solution. Commissioner Cupid's problem was that she did not know it was an under cover police officer following her. I think she would appreciate it if we found some way of marking our unmarked cars so that honest citizens would know it was the police. I think maybe marking in 10 inch reflective lettering "UNMARKED POLICE CAR" would do the trick. Just spitballing ideas here.
Commissioner Cupid needs to step DOWN !!! Police Officers and a lot of citizens have lost ALL respect for her. Everybody can see through her silly story! We all know she got caught CREEPING, so now she is trying to change the focus by making absurd accusations about racist officers! I'm a black Officer and I work with the greatest group of men and women PERIOD !! NOT a racist one among them. Cupid you have lost all credibility!! EVEN your constituents are laughing at you... I know they tell me every night.
I will admit that I haven't been checking this blog lately, but when I heard the Cupid story I knew this blog would blow up... TWO !!! ONLY 2 comments, WTF !! I know everyone can't be afraid of the Ivory Tower and the active shoot speeches. Come on... We can't let Cupid get away with this ridiculous @#$% !! YOUR comments are anonymous, they can't trace your IP address... if your really scared then go to a public WiFi like the Starbucks on Barrett ! if you give me a second you can have my parking space.
The best way to defeat that idiot is to vote her out. Then she can move out of Cobb like she said she would. All she has done is created a bigger problem. After they stopped the detail, something like 5 cars got stolen/broken into because her constituents knew there were no cops there. She's a butthead.
