The beatings will continue until moral improves!

The waterless urinials in the precincts are disgusting. They get full and don't drain. When it's full, guys keep pissing in it like it's a precinct car they're trying to get to 200K to make a point. Even when they do drain, they are stained and smell like piss all the time. Bring back the flush urinals, water can't cost that much.

A good thing came this week. 97 cent raise for PO2 who got exceeds = $77.60 each paycheck. 73 cents if you got meets = $58.40 per check. But guess what, now our retirement contribution is going up. (For those of us who still have a retirement, sorry new guys - and by new I mean hired in the last five years.) And our insurance premiums didn't go up this year, but now all of a sudden I have a $600 deductible to pay every year. That's the same as raising my premium $23 per paycheck.

The County giveth, and the County taketh away. Blessed be the name of the County.

Looks like the same old pattern with cobb. Doing just enough to make it look like they are trying while in actuality they are just kicking the can down the road. The propaganda videos (DPS updates) wreak of desperation and false hope. Good Things Are Coming.......

I wouldn't know what the video says. The director continues to send it in a format we cant watch on our email system. I know there is some way to convert it but wouldn't it be easier if he just sent it in a way the troops could watch it without jumping through hoops?

What happens when March gets here and take home cars don't happen? How many more will we lose.

It's the worst at zone 1 where there is a precinct as short staffed as it may be and probably another 50 or so in STEP with four urinals for all those people or three because one is usually clogged up. We really need to reinstall the water pipes like they did at training. All the county parks have regular urinals too,

I think all the people that are gonna leave have already left. At least that's what the County is hoping for. There is so much scuttlebutt surrounding the cars at the precincts it's ridiculous. Let's hear what you have heard. There was 12M put aside for take home cars, when the SPLOST passed that money was put back in the general fund the County will not borrow against the SPLOST it does not go into effect until 2016. There was a meeting uptown and Hankerson was there so they could lay out the plan and he walked out of the meeting. Hankerson has axed the take home plan altogether but this is doubtful because it is in the SPLOST so it has to be done by 2022. The most ridiculous one I just heard was that the County is going away from the Taurus and is going to Dodge Chargers and they are gonna piggy back on GSP's annual order so they can get more cars. The truth is no one knows when or if it's going to happen but Heaton said in his update before the latest one that the cars were gonna be delayed. How delayed? It would be nice if they would give us some kind of timeline. According to somone at the camp there are only 30 cars ordered and that will just about replace the worn out precinct cars. If the chief is talking to classes in annual training again, this will be the 3rd year I have heard the same thing. The only thing I've seen so far is shift differential. We all know this has nothing to do with our command staff (whether you choose to admit it or not) because their hands are tied and they are just as frustrated as the lowly beat officers. The Tauruses that have about 45,000 miles on them are starting to burn oil because of the high compression engines. I don't think they will make it to 180K or whatever the magic surplus number is. It would be nice if anyone who actually knows what's going on would keep the troops informed. Is that really too much to ask?

I hear 3 or 4 more headed to the S.O.

I criticized the improvement plan and was told that I was wrong, it will happen, it will go through. So far all the things I thought wouldn't happen, other than shift differential (yay, $.50 an hour that you put on a stipend so I don't see that calculated into my OT) haven't happened.

I don't expect to ever get a car, or at least one in the near future. I'd rather get a raise. 73 cents is barely a cost of living adjustment.

I have a love/hate with this place. I love the guys I suit up with, but don't care for the way the county treats us and gives us the run around. Might have to think about making a decision in the next 18 months. Can't say one way or the other right now.

To Feb 22 @ 7:43... There is no doubt this blog is being read, a couple days after you asked for some 39, the chief sends out an update about cars and rifles. Thanks Chief, please keep the updates coming, there is nothing that gets the rumor mill churning like a lack of comms.

We have 15 fully equipped Ford sedans on order currently since December. These 15 will be the first implementation of the take homes. They are expected to START arriving at the DEALER on 3/27/15. They will be then sent to an up fitter to have all equipment and markings installed before being delivered to the camp. Then we have another 45 Ford sedans ordered to use as swap outs. Those too are to START arriving at the dealer in April. There is No Talk of switching to the Dodge Chargers.

I want to see the bill of sale showing that Cobb County paid $1,300.00 for the weapons that they are try to get the Officers to buy. Way overpriced!

you have truly shown your true colors. The County is in the business of making money off anyone they can sucker into this program. Cobb County; you do not pay an officer enough to afford this, except those with rank that work 1/2 days as police supervisors and the other as high paid security.
Way to go Cobb, extort more money from an officer and his family.

Eventhough I was not involved in the actual purchase of the rifles, I will be more than happy to address any of your concerns. Please feel free to contact me.

Deputy Chief Cox

I will happily show you the bill of sale! Cobb County is not making a single penny of the rifle program. Additionally, no one is being forced to purchase the rifle and if they chose not to purchase the rifle one will (or has) been issued. "Anonymous" please take a moment to contact me and I will show you all purchase records at the time and place of your chosing. Captain Adcock

That sounds very promising. Would love to know where you heard it from

For the sake of consistency in training everyone needs to carry the same rifle. The dealer price for that rifle is around 850. Then the sling and flip up sights is around 100. The dealer price for an Aimpoint is around 400. It's more than fair. Quite frankly it's a VERY fair deal.

Thanks for clearing it up, Captain. Tired of the negative comments about EVERY process in this department.

Hopefully, county management will support purchase of more than 60 PV next fiscal year. 60 PV is not enough to issue to all officers by 2017/2018. The regular fleet still needs to be replaced since the current old PV has high mileage (more than usually before 2011).

All you have to do is ask the purchaser at the camp about how many cars are coming.

With the flip up sight, aimpoint, and all the other magpul shit on it, it is worth much more than what they are asking. I for one will be purchasing it; mostly because I don't fell like putting all that garbage on it and having to zero it in myself.

My problem is someone is throwing a fit about a damn rifle when there are bigger problems. There are STILL not enough cars at the precincts. Not enough K9 units, it's sad when Marietta, Acworth, Smyrna, whoever is code 8 for a track or for 38. I feel bad for the current officers and dogs who end up being called out while on call.
I'm confident that will be fixed though.

I am the person who ordered them so I should know first hand.

I agree that we have more pressing issues than the patrol rifle purchase program. If I were to purchase it, I'd like the option to replace the optics and BUIS system. If the rifle is "mine" I should be able to outfit it as I see fit as long as I don't mess with the action and the range approves it as safe to use. If I can qualify with an Eotech or other BUIS, who cares if it isn't the same, it's my rifle! I don't know if I'll pony up another $50 a paycheck for it. I'm already paying close to $500 a month for health/dental/vision/HRA, so maybe next year. If the policy was changed to allow minor modification I'd most definitely buy it in 2016.

I've been critical of the county and the police improvement plan. So far things seem to be heading in the right direction. I really want to see what the compensation and pay study reveals. I think that could be good or bad, depending on the results.

As for take-home cars, I'd rather have a 5% pay raise. I hope the educational incentive and the other precincts transitioning to 10's stays on schedule.

On a completely unimportant note, it'd be nice to get some new Glocks like the SO and maybe put the Glock 43 in as a back up gun option.
