A summary of the March/April posts discussing other agencies hazardous duty pay:

Dekalb County: +50% OT pay and +50% A/L
Gwinnett County: +15%
Paulding County: +$2/hr
Atlanta: +$500/month
Peach County: +$6/hr
Clayton County: +40 hrs A/L per week
Augusta: +$5/hr
Cherokee County: +$500/month
Fulton County: +$750
Forsyth County: +$500/month
Douglas County: +$200/pay period

Anonymous said...

You forgot Cobb:+50% A/L...just kidding

Anonymous said...

The reason you didn't get a raise was not financial and purely political. The city agencies got together with Cobb and begged them not to offer an incentive because then they would have to offer an incentive. That is why the Chief sent the email with the glimmer of hope for the $500.00 before Dr. McLovin rescinded it in the 11th hour on a Friday. Ask any Major or Captain and if they are honest they will confirm this.

Expect the best.

That's interesting because Kennesaw PD got 1 hour of comp for every 1 hour worked, Powder Springs PD got additional annual leave and Cobb County School Police are working every other day so they are getting more time off for the same pay.

And while we're at at the following other agencies got hazard pay also.
Carrollton $200 every 2 weeks.
Henry County $2.50/hr
Union City $500/month

And a handful of companies have announced pay bumps for its front line workers as COVID-19 spreads throughout the U.S. including Amazon, Albertsons, Krogers, Safeway and Whole Foods, which all announced $2 per hour pay raises for eligible employees.

Brought to you today by GTAC.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like they lead we don't follow

Anonymous said...

School police are a different entity. They have a different budget.

Anonymous said...

KSPD and PSPD did get the annual leave. The fact that they took it away from Cobb was a slap in the face and shows me what I am worth to the county.

The meeting was to stop the financial bonus to Cobb officers because the cities would feel compelled to follow suit. They are only willing to give us something if the fed money comes in. Unless they find something else to spend it on. Like a park or library. Their only concern is re-election.

Anonymous said...

And the hazard/risk to officers is going to increase as Georgia continues to open up more (good thing economically).
The more people out and about the more contact with people and more risk to us and our families.
And still no hazard pay!!
Also looks like the cities theory was BS with KPD and PSPD getting hazard pay.

Brought to you by the letters W, T, and F.

No matter what you read here or what you post here the circumstances will never ever change. You can stay or go. Do what is best for you and your family. If you stay you will be appreciated by your beat partner only. I mean truly appreciated. Not false support like you get from Precinct Commanders and above.
Good luck on all your tomorrow's in whatever road you choose

Anonymous said...

Take away this statement "Not false support like you get from Precinct Commanders and above", And this is by far the most accurate statement made on this blog.

I'm going to always support Chief Cox, he has given me no reason to believe that he doesn't genuinely care about the men and women in this department.

Anonymous said...

It is a true statement. We are losing three more this week. One is a pension guy more than willing to leave for greener pastures.

The false support statement is out of frustration in my opinion. Our command staff has no real power to help in any way so they try to spin things in a positive manner. This appears disingenuous to the men and woman who have been fed the GTAC line for years now. Spoiler alert, there is no GTAC. If you are waiting for things to change your fooling yourself. If you decide to stay just expect more of the same.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

There will never be a day when we see the kind of money that will make us happy. True gratitude will be met with skepticism because we are cops.

Everyday we get to choose whether we let this get under our skin or not.

I'd also like to add that we parents need to make sure we do our best to not bring our frustrations home. The kids and your spouse will feel that tension and it is poisonous.

Your happiness is a choice.

This was my post and by no means a knock on Chief Cox. I know his hands are handcuffed and tripple locked. Locked by those that left him this bowl of shit. Locked by the POS Boyce. A disgrace to the County and a disgrace to the Eagle, Globe and Anchor. Locked by this POS that has some kind of toilet paper on her wall calling her Dr. The only fault I bestow upon Chief Cox is his unwillingness to step up and tell the team that this ship has stalled and will soon sink. That it is in your best interest to jump off and save yourself while you can. I know he has a job title, but that title does not require him to offer best case scenarios. Tell the truth and let the chips fall. We have come accustomed to manpower shortages. We can handle the truth. The CS is a different story. I mean some of them think Cobb hung the damn moon. They go home and IV on this damn cool-aid shit. So yes, it is a huge amount of false support. He has the immediate power to do away with a lot of these feel good positions and put officers back in beats permanently. No need for all these special project people doing a lot less than beat officers and getting a special pay for it. Sorry if I hurt your pride. Truth is hard to swallow for some. I'm here and I'm not leaving. I long ago accepted GTAC was bullshit. I just am not willing to start over and throw away my nearly xx years of service. That's my decision and I want you to make yours without any influence from this blog.

Anonymous said...

That's why the last guy punched out. He didn't want his name attached to the sinking ship. Even though he did a lot to scuttle it.

Anonymous said...

And COVID. Don't bring that home either. Not good for the kids or the spouse.

Anonymous said...

Happiness...
Put EVERYONE in the "step plan" based on our years of service and I guarantee you'll see a lot of happy people!

Anonymous said...

Only in Cobb can every clarification email about this "tenth amendment" to the pension plan be even more confusing than the last. How hard is it to just say who this effects and how? Don't make me have to read through 3 paragraphs of legalese to figure out if this even applies to me. Start off with, the following groups of people are effected by this change: 1) 2) 3)

Anonymous said...

Examples would be nice too. By my math if you retire after 10 or 15 years you will get nothing due to the percentage per month reductions listed in the email. I'm probably wrong but I can't figure out how, and that should not be the case.

Anonymous said...

Sorry but that's the "cobb way" and we can't do it differently because "we've always done that way".
-Expect the best ;)

Anonymous said...

We are about to get paid!

Anonymous said...

Doubtful...Very doubtful.

Anonymous said...

Well, at the BOC meeting today they took up the question of retroactive hazard pay for essential employees. Since we didn't get an email on it, it must not have gone well for us, right?

Courtesy MDJ, buried in a story about the BOC voting to give nonprofits $1M for food:

"In other business, the board postponed consideration of a proposal to give certain employees deemed "essential" hazard pay of $500 per month.

Most county employees have been working from home since before Boyce declared a state of emergency in the county. But some considered essential by their department heads have reported to work as they would otherwise, potentially exposing themselves to the coronavirus.

At a meeting Monday morning, Gambrill said the board should not vote on the measure until the county could provide an estimate of the proposal's cost, a concern shared by other members of the board."

Anonymous said...

Here for the part times!!

Anonymous said...

Or lack there of. Based on the officers I know only about half of them still have their part times.
And for those that say you shouldn't rely on part times, it's simple math, cobb's failure of giving raises over the years has not kept up with inflation.
And you can forget about the raise in October.
The only thing you can Count On the boc is Being Broke!

Anonymous said...

Hey Cobb Police Chief, Staff, and BOC. Thought you did the research on this stuff. I guess not enough detail of work put in to it. Here is my thought. You bought the damn camera system that we are mandated to wear. How about you pay the cost required to facilitate its use. You pay to have the shirts altered. F this "For Now" BS and telling, not asking, us to use our money for your shit. Cheap ass department

Anonymous said...

Are you saying that you used your personal money (out of your pocket) to pay for uniform items? If so, I would suggest you be more creative because I can cover all my uniform expenses without spending my personal money.

If you are complaining that you are using money in your uniform allowance, then I guess they are already honoring your request. Since the uniform allowance is County money already, then it would appear the County is doing what you have asked, "You pay to have the shirts altered.".

I doubt you are paying to have shirts altered (related to new cameras) from your personal bank account.

If you want to complain and vent, do better than this.

Anonymous said...

Your supervisors are failing to put out accurate information.

Utility is covering the cost of the shirts. They are doing them in 2 batches of three shirts in order to make sure they can get the first batch back to the county before the bodycams are issued.

If you were a dumbass and sent off 3 long sleeve shirts instead of short sleeves knowing that spring was right around the corner then yes you can pay your own money to have additional short sleeves done. That was nobody's fault but yours.

Once everyone gets outfitted with at least the first 3 shirts, They intend to collect another 3 to send off.

You created a problem for yourself due to your own stupidity.

Anonymous said...

I AGREE SOMEONE IS FAILING THE WORKERS!!!!!

Now you call one stupid because he points out that some have been told "For now officers will have to pay". They were not told their uniform allowance could be used. So the stupidity goes to you and those like you. So plain and simple. I don't care how you see it or how stuck up the Cobb County is Royalty type thinking you buy in to.

Nothing was said by either if they had enough LS or SS. I for one actually work and thinking the post comes from another that does as well. We will tell you that 3 shirts will not go far for our types. Summer is coming and the heat will require a change of clothes. I mean we do want clean presentable officers out there. Just because you probably wear a golf shirt to perform your duties does not mean we do.

FYI, it has been put out that officers will pay for now. To me I read that as out of the officers pockets.

IF, a big IF, it was meant that officers could use uniform funds for the alterations then why did the message not say; "USE UNIFORM FUNDS" for alterations. I did not create the message.

So to you, if you really want to get a good look at stupidity LOOK IN A MIRROR!

Anonymous said...

Y'all are sounding more dysfunctional than a lot of low rent 86s I've been on. Keep it classy.

Did any of you watch the Chairman and Sheriff debates tonight? Mason looked bad.

Anonymous said...

Fake news!

Anonymous said...

Since we are police officers and should be able to investigate incidents, I chose to contact the Supply Unit for clarification instead of believing rumors.

The Camera contrator is performing a 2nd round of uniform pick-up for alterations. This will not cost the officer. We just need to be calm and allow the system to work.

If you do not want to wait for the system to work, you can pay out-of-pocket to T&T Uniform for a shirt alteration ($13.00 a shirt).

Easy decision:

1: Be patient and wait for the system to work, realizing that there are only a handful of ladies in Supply to fulfill over six hundred officers requests.
2: Decide you want your additional shirts done immediately and pay T&T Uniform the $13.00 a shirt for alteration.

Seems like a common sense decision and it's a shame that someone did not investigate further and attempted to make this a "hate filled rant".

Have a good Memorial Day everyone.

Almost June and still no hazard pay or annual leave. C'mon BOC do the right thing, the Feds are footing the bill!!!

A lot of non-LEOs on social media are understandably upset about the Minneapolis video, as are most of us cops. I've seen chatter encouraging folks to stop and film all traffic stops of black people and insinuations that cops want to murder minorities. Filming from a lawful vantage point is legal. Legit obstruction isn't and officer safety issues must be dealt with. We all know we don't want to kill anyone. Keep your heads on a swivel, stay professional as usual, follow your training, and don't get baited into anything...even on social media.

AJC reporting that GSP and GBI may be furloughed 24 days in 2021 due to decreased revenue and a mandated 14% budget cut. A Trooper that had just completed Trooper School normally makes $47,350. a 24 day furlough would cut that salary by $4,370.

The one thing I have learned during this Covid crisis is that our County Manager and Commissioners are scared. Most of them hunkered down in their expensive homes telling us what we should be doing. Now they are requiring us to wear a stupid wrist band showing that we are not sick, yet they didn't care about that when we had to work while they stayed home. Ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

How is 3 shirts not enough? I only have 2 SS because I had 1 LS altered as well just in case. Even 2 shirts is plenty. I guess if you're one of those people who sends your shirts off to the dry cleaners for some reason maybe. If so here's an idea, stop. I pull mine right out of the dryer and hang them up. Every few months I might throw an iron to the sleeves just to keep the crease in there. You can't tell them apart from the ones that go to the cleaners. Other than that there's no reason to send the shirts to the cleaners, pants yes, shirts no. Assuming you have a washer and dryer in your house I find it hard to believe that even 2 shirts isn't enough. No matter how hard you "work."

Hey boc,
Maybe now you can see how your FAILURE to be competitve and fair with pay for public safety hurts us during the COVID Crisis and the protests/looting/riots.
We're short manpower even for normal day to day law enforcement duties and now we're in even worse shape for all the civil disorder going on.
There's no one to blame but the boc.
Look around, our economy is in a recession (well documented) and per the Atlanta Federal Reserve we are now in a great depression numbers for our GDP of negative 51 percent.
GDPNow - Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta
https://www.frbatlanta.org/cqer/research/gdpnow

And couple that with nearly half of small business owners expect to close down permanently.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-05-06/majority-of-u-s-small-businesses-expect-to-close-survey-says

The promised October raise/step plan adjustment isn't going to happen. But wait a minute you say, the economy taking a $hit is good for recruiting. Call me pessimistic but the something tells me the Minneapolis incident won't help with recruiting.

I've got 15 years +/- and my base pay is the same as a 3 year trooper.
I hope this post wasn't a ploy to show why we dont want a true step plan.
Because past practice tells me we'll be furloughed again.

I know there are bigger issues to debate, but as I stood around sweating to death at the mall while trying desperately to figure how to carry water bottles on me, I couldn't help but wonder if we are going to be getting the ok to wear BDU pants with these new outer vests? It is incredibly ridiculous that we are still wearing class A pants, just saying

Kudos to Chief Cox. After finding out that Atlanta is charging 6 of their officers with aggravated assault following an arrest he is pulling Cobb Officers out of the city. I hate that we are being forced to leave fellow officers on their own under inept leadership but maybe we can pave the way for some laterals. We may not pay our officers but we appreciate them enough not to indict them for doing their job.

Anonymous said...

Maybe I didn't watch the video closely enough but I'm still not sure why the ATL cops were charged, much less fired. They had 2 subjects that locked themselves in a car that I assume were under arrest. They lock the car and refuse lawful orders to get out. The cops break the window to gain access to the arrestees. They use a taser to attempt to get them out of the car (instead of going hands on like I was taught in mandate before we had tasers). They still don't comply and are dragged out of the car. Were the cops supposed to just let them go after breaking the law? The mayor said they wouldn't charge someone out "buying chips" but these two were out after the protesting was supposed to be over. How is this any different than the hundreds of sovereign citizen videos and many Cobb incidents of us breaking out windows and pulling them out? I hope the cops beat the charge, sue the crap out of ATL, and lateral over to Cobb. Are those of us who have pulled sovereign citizens out of a car about to be charged?

I also saw ATL was extending their $500 hazard pay through September 30

I SUPPORT THE RIGHT TO PROTEST. I WHOLE HEARTEDLY SUPPORT A PROTEST AGAINST THE MAN THAT KILLED GEORGE FLOYD.

What I do not support is a protest against Cops and Law Enforcement in general. People!!! Take a moment and truly look at reality. How many police officers are there in the United States?

Roughly about 800,000

Look at this:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-myth-of-systemic-police-racism-11591119883

The truth is that Floyd was killed by a white man. He was not killed by the Minneapolis Police Department. It just so happened that the white guy is a police officer. An officer that in no way is a representation of the entire profession.

So when any person, be he Asian, Black Latino or White kills another, it should be taken that whomever employed him and that entire profession is at fault?

If it is true for Cops it has to be for all.

The job is not easy. It is not for the indecisive individual. It takes officers of all ethnic, racial, religious backgrounds that can meet a minimum standard to be allowed to police a people.

A standard that with the bar set high for those permitted the honor serve in such a capacity.

That being said, all are not responsible for the bad apples that slide through.

Racism is a multi edged blade. All race of people have racist within their population.

It is being taught by all race denominations. Not one newborn knew of his race on his birth. He hated not one. Along the way He was coached into any bias he may have.

Knowing that bias exist, politicians use it to gain only your vote. They care zilch about your reality. Upon election day, watch how quickly they run from that issue.

Some of you think you get news on CNN, FOX, MSNBC or the networks.

Wake up call.

It is not news!! It is 24/7/365 of paid bullshit opinions being forced on you by those who have zero ability to know how it is like to live as an American that does engage in his or her community without a camera in their face and can be authentic.

The media is fueling this narrative for one side or another to make itself relevant for advertising dollars.

The internet controls what you will see if you search for the truth on that platform.

I ask you all to take a self look and ask if the bias you may have of another based on your own knowledge or the so called knowledge you see in media, on web sites, or as pushed by a partisan educator?

Hopefully we will soon see that we all are here because of our perfect creator. Not one race, class, ethnicity being any superior to the other.

Hopefully we all can wake up soon and love your neighbor and community.

My question about this is are we going to continue to send our officers down into Fulton County now knowing that their DA (as if we didn’t already know) is just another corrupt politician willing to stand on the backs of police officers to make a political statement? I for one refuse to enter Fulton County. Hopefully it won’t come to the point of me having to tell my SGT, or LT, or the chief NO, I’m not going. But I will if I have to. Remember guys, working for Cobb doesn’t matter, if you’re in Fulton County, even if they requested your presence, you are at the mercy of their political corruption.

So is that why precincts sent officers out of their beat and out of service for.

Why the fuck should we be renewing our oath. How about those politicians not renewing theirs at all but honoring theirs in the first place. Staging. All who took part were just window dressing. We operate decently here. Some throw the racial shit at us and the truth is overwhelmingly the opposite. Several past chiefs, That H guy and that Register fake sold their soles to the Lisa Cupid types. The NAACP and others also sucked out their man cards. Truth about politicians, they only care about self. That's all of them. Be they the elephant or jackass. Trump at least is genuine. He is America 1st. Not polished in public for political fairness. Put body cameras on our politicians and, lets see what kind of shady ass shit comes out. Oh Atlanta, do you really think your black cops operated wrongfully. Take a look at your hypocrisy. Those officers are black. They grew up, made a choice to be better and help others. You call them House-N, Uncle Tom or not black enough. Why is that. Does black enough require smoking, selling weed and other drugs? Does it require destruction of your community? Can't be black enough if they arrest or enforce laws to HELP their community. I am sickened on this racial bullshit narrative.

Just end. Oh illegal wiretapping in chief Fuckbama involving his bullshit 2 cents in the ATL. CHICAGO burns and he gives advice here. https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/atlanta/atlanta-mayor-accepts-former-president-obamas-challenge-review-police-policy/QGHPLVG2X5AW3BY73SNAL4NO74/

If you drop to a knee in front of the American Flag or our Anthem then you say to me you are not American and don't want a UNITED States. Any who take that stance choose division over unity. We all will choose a side. Hopefully their are only two sides to choose from. One right for all. The other wrong for all. Right for a few will fall into the category of wrong for all.

Anonymous said...

Since most of your rant was concerning politicians and their actions, I will only comment about the part relating to our department.

First, you have a right to your opinion and to voice your opinion and I partially agree with the statement, "We operate decently here". I think this police department "operates great here". We are not perfect but we are much better than 99% of other departments.

You may think the retaking of the oath was just window dressing and maybe it was a public display to show where our department stands on a topic but you need to know this was done at the request of a hard working African American officer, that works in one of the busies precincts, one of the busies shifts and just wanted to show the world how good our department really is. In other words, he cares about this department and his fellow officers. He could have easily written a post on a blog site, under an Anonymous title, but instead he stepped forward, showed his dedication and concern for this department and tried to do something that showed how good of a department we have. Kudos to this officer, his courage and his caring for all of us.

Most of our officers, work hard, have pride in their job and the organization and are good people. A very small percentage try to cause issues by critizing their fellow officers or the department. This is a great department with great people.

I have learned many things about life and one is this, "He who critizes the actions of a hard working individual usually is the slug in the organiziaiton."

As Paul Harvey used to say, "Now you know the rest of the story."

I may have "ruffled your feathers" and made you mad but let be clear, I have more respect for the officer that tried to do something good for our department than for anyone who critizes us through this blog site.

What we are dealing with now is a fake narrative created during the Obama presidency. His open disdain for Police Officers set the tone for what we are dealing with now.

I don't know any officers that openly hate black folks or vice versa.
What we do have is our own bias's. Why are we like that? Because we have experience, training and knowledge. With that comes the burden of trying not to stereotype people. Meanwhile, day in and day out the people we serve feed those stereotypes.
I received a phone call a few days ago from a retired officer. He said, as tough as we were on bad guys 25yrs ago, we never would've put a knee on their neck and held them like that for that long.

BUT We need to do better. If we went on calls and spoke to people like friends, parents and grand parents and left the confrontational tone in the car, we'd all be better off.
THAT is why people feel slighted and mistreated.

Do the job with Grace but be prepared for the person that won't allow that.

Lastly, remember that the county manager and commissioners would think nothing of sacrificing one of us as a show of support for the narrative. As seen in Atlanta we are pawns in their game. We do not have a seat at the table.

Anonymous said...

That's your problem, you fail to realize that the people who criticize the department on this site ARE trying to do something good for the department, but people like you have their heads so far in the sand you don't realize it unless it involves virtue signaling and race pandering. My suggestion to you would be to climb down out of the ivory tower and hump a beat for a month, you might learn some stuff. If you hold the rank it sounds like you do, you need to realize the job is completely different now from the last time you did it.

And so it begins.
https://m.startribune.com/minneapolis-city-council-to-vote-on-first-changes-to-police/571032682/

I hope Minneapolis does dismantle their police department. What a great social experiment to watch unfold. The PD has 800 officers, 5 precincts, the city is 58 square miles, and a population of over 400k.
Think of the amount of lives (and businesses) this will save as the country watches this experiment fail and it prevents other communities from making the same mistake.

Comments and concerns?

Anonymous said...

The solution is simple and the PD is the model for all agencies.
Enforce the policies in place (CALEA endorsed) via appropriate and progressive discipline.

Disclaimer: I am NOT CS or even a supervisor. I know our pay is NOT competitive or fair and the boc has a decade plus long history of NOT taking care of public safety.

Be Safe!
Looks like July 2016 again.

On July 7, 2016, Micah Xavier Johnson ambushed and fired upon a group of police officers in Dallas, Texas, killing five officers and injuring nine others. Two civilians were also wounded.

On July 17, 2016, Gavin Eugene Long killed three police officers and injured three other officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in the wake of the shooting of Alton Sterling.

By "appreciate the pressure this social justice is putting on our profession" do you mean us going from 2 open beats to 5 open beats while we go help Atlanta? Or beat officers having to stage for protest while other officers get stuck with more reports and answering calls alone? Or the Cobb officer living in Paulding getting his windows smashed in at his house? I'm definitely not thinking Cobb pd has a racial problem in the ranks. The officer kneeling on Floyd's neck should get the electric chair. Why should my wife and kids be scared to be home alone because of what he did?

I am proud today to be a white American male.

I am not sorry for who I am.

I have never been involved in the slave trade that began in 1619.

I am not sorry that I chose a profession that helps people by putting people of all races in jail for making another human a victim of their choices.

I am not responsible for the bad decision making skills of another free thinking human.

My profession is an honorable one. We still run into chaos when others flee.

Those included in the we are white, are black, are Asian, are Latinos, and are from all walks of life and all social and economic backgrounds.

I owe no other human nothing more than to treat him or her with respect.

As a white American male I have no privilege over anyone. I have used hard work and good decisions to obtain what is mine.

I am an American and I stand for Flag and say Pledge of Allegiance. I stand for our Standard and the singing of OUR National Anthem.

I kneel only to pray to our God above who gave his son Jesus so that our sins be forgiven.

I am sick of being blamed for the Minneapolis event that saw George Floyd's life end because someone had white skin and wore a badge. We saw who did it and who was there.

They alone are responsible.

The more I think about this new idea of policing the more excited I get. Put me in a patrol car and I only handle active violent crimes in progress. Let the social workers handle the 86s, 87s, and 41s. The 45s will not be handled at all because you dont want infringe on their right to steal. Let the social workers handle this. Hell yeah, sign me up.

I guess the Cobb BOC is already starting defunding the police. The hazard pay is still not approved and step in grade raises may not happen!

Anonymous said...

Haha, I can guarantee you the step in grade raise in October ISN'T happening!

Anonymous said...

Interesting comment and assumption. Did you attend the budget discussion meeting on June 2nd? If so, can you elaborate on what was said relating to the step-an-grade?

Just curious.

Anonymous said...

Ditto. Over 20 years ago when I started I was warned that there would be a lot more paperwork than I expected. What I wasn’t told was that most of that paperwork would concern absolute bulls***. “I met with the above listed idiots who called 9-1-1 because they were arguing with each other. The end.”

Anonymous said...

I think it is time to give the people exactly what they want. They don't want us. The county will never properly pay us and now will take from us going forward. Shitty days ahead.

So in policy the word choke was purposely not put in writing for those officer who actually may have to resort to a last resort use. That use being to save their own life. Many in this department have been in that type of 29. Now, the "Choke" is listed a no go even as last resort and in writing. Knee jerk reaction to satisfy political pressure. I get it. But what now has been created is a tool that permits administrative punishment along with civil and criminal prosecution.

Tomorrow policing will look like - police officers and precincts mirroring fire stations.

Look out fire. Landscape competition coming.

Reality is this is no laughing matter. I do think what is taught and verbalized within our departments training was sufficient. Who, what other group will we bow to and relinquish more of our rights to go home at the end of a shift.

I loved this profession and this agency. Not so much today.

Anonymous said...

Our "leadership" can't even put out a policy update and email that jive with each other. Read them closely, they are saying different things! It's cowardice, pure and simple, politicians that are scared and trying to cover their own a**es while throwing us under the bus. Don't think for a SECOND this department will back you if you are forced to do what you have to do to defend yourself, and EVERYONE needs to have legal defense yesterday.

Can we have beards yet? We are in a hated profession, no real expectation of ever getting a raise, no real expectation that recruits will sign up to fix our man power, our families are being targeted for violence because of out profession, huge increases in civil and criminal liabilities... come on, at least let us have a beard.

Interesting isn't that as you read the news just this past week more and more departments around the country are seeing officers resigning from specialized units.
These loyal officers are doing so to stand in solidarity with fellow officers being fired/suspended for just doing their job, lack of confidence/support in department leadership/local elected officials, and to do their job in this current political climate is untenable.

Anonymous said...

You ain't wrong. Why should we have to resort to medical waivers or religious exemption? Are those with medical waivers less professional? Most journalists have reported that police with beards are more approachable.

- Curly Bill

Anonymous said...

I think it is interesting that we have officers/supervisors that have gone 20+ years without a beard and suddenly they have a medical condition. I wonder how many will get the waiver once they have to go to the county doctor.

COBB - Count On Being Boyced

Anonymous said...

With the atlanta mayor reforming apd's use of force policies more officers will resign or retire, blue flu, and the city becomes a sanctuary city for all criminals.

Anonymous said...

So the Atlanta mayor says cops are "to be guardians and not warriors" I may be old school but I didn't sign up to guard people or things, I joined to uphold the Constitutian. I joined to fight crime and put bad guys in jail. I'm not wanting to guard the bank I want to catch the robber. I don't want to help someone document another incident and get a TPO I want to put the criminal in cuffs and in a jail cell. I hope this talking by politicians is just a phase to help calm people's feelings until they're triggered by something else. This isn't a police problem it's a sin problem. I've seen way more elementary school teachers break the law than cops but no one is burning down schools. If I wanted to be a guard I would work at best buy checking receipts and making more money! Sorry for the rant just hoping after the manpower shortage (good things are still coming right?) and after covid we are able to go hunt bad guys instead of giving hugs and singing kumbaya ....

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know the legal standard for long a person has to be religious to start growing thier beard? Asking for a friend.

Anonymous said...

News flash, Atlanta has been a sanctuary for criminals for decades. I couldn't tell you how many criminal histories I've run and seen dozens of "nolle prossed", "not presented to grand jury", etc coming out of Fulton and Atlanta. And not for BS. I've seen armed robberies, rapes, aggravated assault, and yes even murder charges down there just forgotten about.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like your problem is you wanted to be a law enforcement officer, but got into the game after the enforcement part of that was already being removed from the job description. Atlanta's mayor is factually incorrect though, and an idiot. It just highlights the old saying, nobody loves a soldier until the enemy is at the gate.

Anonymous said...

One of the new executive orders out of Atlanta. Officers must use deesculation before using deadly force. I can think of maybe one type of incident where you might have time for that. I can think of hundreds that you dont.

Anonymous said...

You have two choices. Boyce or Cupid. I can see Cupid being an extension of Bottoms.

Anonymous said...

If we can’t manage to steal enough laterals from APD to fill every one of our openings, I think we might need some new recruiters....

Anonymous said...

Are we our brothers keeper. Will you stand on the square in front of building 100 for 50 minutes?

Stand on a date to be determined and have no response to non priority calls within the county.

On duty officers park at your precincts for 1 hour and the rest stand at the square for 50 minutes. 1 minute for all 50 states. To show law enforcement lives matter and what we provide to the community matters.

I will post my name and a contact if I see enough response that officers are willing to stand up for themselves and others.

Anonymous said...

I support law and order in Cobb County. Our DA has not charged any officers with murder before the GBI investigation is done. I believe our chain of command has our backs for the most part. I see no need for a walkout here. Now if I was a LEO in Fulton County? I'd already be gone.

Anonymous said...

In the event of a work stoppage, the majority of citizens who have your back and would comprise your jury are the ones who would suffer.

I bet with everything going on the APD guys still won't come to Cobb. They may not get arrested by the Cobb DA, but they aren't going to get paid what they're worth either.

Tim Boyd here, I want to ask veteran officers, supervisors and command staff along with our FOP elected officers to make a push to get our officers on board with some form of legal protection. If you are a sworn officer today and do not have legal protection coverage you are insane.

We have seen that doing things right and as trained will not prevent you from becoming the sacrificial lamb.

I would like to think that we are oceans apart from that Atlanta Shit-Show.

Our Command team is not likely to allow the injustices as seen with our neighbors. Why take any chances of things beyond their reach.

I do not want to see you or your family in financial demise from one BS filing of a lawsuit or charges.

This was apparently created by Law Enforcement Officers to show support of their fellow officers. They have tried the GoFundMe route, but apparently GoFundMe doesn't support law enforcement and the page was removed. I clicked the link and researched it on Facebook to see how many times it has been posted and it is being shared all over social media and as of 6.18.2020 it has raised over $190,000 for the Officer. I could care less what the site looked like as long as it was doing the job getting the message out.

What's the blue light? I think we worry too much about people's feelings. "We don't want the public to feel like we're the military" or "I feel like the baby blue pants look good because my hero growing up wore them and I can't change". The only feeling we should be worried about is our lower backs and hips from carrying all this crap for 30 years. I think the majority of the public supports us and the BOC allegedly supports us but no one "feels" the need to pay us so why do we care how they feel we look when we're documenting their unlocked entering auto or typing their parking lot 41 report. I saw someone wearing the new outer vest and I wasn't that impressed. It's a step in the right direction though and way better than our 1930's milk man outfits. I'm curious about the cost of these custom vests vs a plain old tac vest over a polo shirt and khaki 5'11s. Sorry for the rant I just think people's feelings are dictating the police department's spending sometime. And God bless everyone involved in that cluster last night good job.

I observed an officer with the new vest carrier accessing his back up weapon. He had to undo the entire right side Velcro straps to gain access. The strap is one piece on both ends with two elastic straps in the middle. This caused his vest to be hanging off of him . If he were in a fight for his life it would have been easy to pull off of him. We need to fix this issue fast.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/cobbcountycourier.com/2020/06/sheriff-candidates-discuss-protests-support-military-style-weapons-for-cobb-sheriffs-office/amp/

One of these want to be sheriffs is wihin our command staff. Hell, he is the commander of one of our precincts that has violent crime.

When given the opportunity to support the blue and he failed.

He was asked and given the opportunity to show where he stands and he showed it.

"Owens said that now is a trying time for law enforcement but that his heart goes out to the family of Floyd.

“We are facing a tough time based on some bad actions of officers [in Minneapolis], and it’s affecting everyone across the country,” Owens said. “We should be frustrated. We should express our concerns about how our Black males are being treated, and everyone should be frustrated about it.”

Owens also expressed concern about items being thrown at officers at the protests in Atlanta this past Friday and said the community must come together."

He had the opportunity to say that what happenened in Minneapolis was a tragedy. That a man, for reasons unknown was responsible for the death of George Floyd. That man happened to be white and happened to be a police officer.

White American Males did not kill George Floyd. One did.

American Police Officers did not kill George Floyd. One did.

America and our businesses did not kill George Floyd but are being destroyed by violent terrorist under the banner of black Lives Matter.

Black lives do matter. Not one ounce more or one ounce less than than any other.

Human lives matter, PERIOD!!!

Pandering for votes for one agency and having the ability to affect policy for another should NOT be permitted.

I agree George Floyd was murdered.

Not calling the violent terrorist what they are, a criminal element is cowardess.

Herndon saying looters are kids being kids in the cover of night. Not my damn kids.

Looters are criminals.

Hey political scum. How about making sentencing matter. Though Floyds death was wrong, he was committing a crime. How many crimes is too many to be allowed to walk freely. To me his criminal history showed he did not care for law and order. Death is not his answer but long term incarceration is.

If we are to have a conversation it has to be a truthful one. Not one sided.

Oh a vote for Owens will be a bad vote for law and order.

Anonymous said...

Have you brought it up for discussion in an FOP meeting? If not you should.

True, but let me offer a counterpoint: what does it say about the state of our department that so many believed this to be true without question? To me it indicates a complete lack of faith in upper levels of supervision, but just something to ponder.

I completely agree with you! These Sheriff candidates will be bad and so will Cupid if she gets elected. I pray for all fellow Officers because everyone has a family to go home to! We have now been forced to give up our lives for criminals because if we harm them we will lose our life no matter what now a days! Owens is bad for Cobb. He has had many years with Cobb County and not one thing is memorable. His actions that he would do for the Sheriff's Department/County would be disastrous. Anyone not willing to stand up for his men and women that protect this County is ridiculous. We are family and we should protect each other not throw one another under the bus. We were all on the same side when it came to Floyd, but this has now become a tactic to just destroy everything and everyone. Be safe everyone!

This isn't a matter of who has it worse. The people I mentioned previously work in a building that had visible mold and mildew on the walls in their building. They're $199.95 according to the company's website. Though I'm sure the county got a bulk deal. Khaki 5.11's a polo and a tac vest would be an absolutely terrible choice. We'd look like security guards. Cheap ones at that.

I heard a ridiculous rumor that masks may become mandatory for all in the pd.
If it's true I really hope CS considers a couple of things and not cower to 1% of the population.
With the constant daily challenges between law enforcement and the public a mask would only dehumanize police officers and make it impossible to connect with the public.
Consider from a practical/tactical perspective.
Like when an officer has to speak with a civilian on a routine call it would be futile. Think about your last experience at a restaurant and trying to have a conversation with the server wearing a mask.
Now consider a scenario where compliance is necessary immediately and your use of force selection is escalating at mach 3. The need to be understood clearly is an understatement and may effect a criminal and/or civil outcome. The teacher from the Charlie Brown cartoon comes to mind when trying to yell or speak loudly through a mask.

Anonymous said...

I would suggest that we not listen to ridiculous rumors. There are people among us that like to cause disention and problems and often do this through spreading unfounded rumors. Others take pride in anticipating what will occur and forcasting it in the form of a rumor when they acutually have very little knowledge on the subject.

You also bring up some valid points and I will not disagree with you but it should be realized that some citizens are very much committed to the mask concept and are taking pictures of public safety employees not wearing masks. They then complain to the commissioners.

Just a few thoughts.

Anonymous said...

It's obvious via social media and the "mask shaming" going on nationwide on those choosing not wearing masks. It's a personal choice and should stay a personal choice.
Just imagine how we would operate as a department if we catered to everything that people found "uncomfortable". What's amazing is before the shelter in place was lifted LEO's were out making contact with people every hour of everyday day and only a handful have actually died from it?
The MSM is playing up this virus and causing an unnecessary panic. Thank God Gov Kemp has deemed mask wearing UNENFORCEABLE.

Anonymous said...

I think there is a bigger issue. We work too hard to appease people that are never going to be satisfied.

Over the last few years there has been Ice Bucket challenges, Singing songs, dancing and now wearing masks.

I'm tired of chasing the carrot.

We need a return to firm but fair and no negotiations.

Anonymous said...

Amen! We as a profession bent over backwards after Ferguson to accommodate a multitude of demands from people that knew nothing about what we do. And we as a profession convinced ourselves that it was a good thing, and that we had made "progress" with those making the demands. Then George Floyd happened and you know what? It was all for nothing. Everything we had put in place functioned exactly as intended, and they still burned shit down, acab, etc.

Maybe we should stop listening to people that just don't like the police?

Anonymous said...

Did you really have that hard of a time hearing the waiter or waitress? I do not believe they will mandate wearing a mask for PD but you really should as often as possible. It is really not that hard to do and barely interferes with what you are doing. But keep knowing more than any scientist and do you. Bunch of keyboard warrior morons.

Anonymous said...

I agree it's a personal choice and which scientists are you talking about?
The ones that said masks didn't help (Dr Fauci) or that the HOT weather would slow the spread (you pick the scientists).
You and the "scientists" can't scientifically prove the masks work.
Here's an idea, have everyone wear an scba. It's BS and a false sense of security for those that think THE SKY IS FALLING.

Anonymous said...

Funny how these "SCIENTISTS" cannot figure out anything accurately. They guess about almost everything. Below is from the CDC....
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it "does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19," referring to the disease caused by the new coronavirus. Rather, experts caution that putting on a face mask without proper fitting and training could actually increase your risk.

"If it's not fitted right, you're going to fumble with it," explained Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar before a House Appropriations subcommittee on Wednesday. "You're going to be touching your face, which is the No. 1 way you're going to get disease, is unclean hands touching your face."

On the other hand, if you are already coughing and showing symptoms of possible coronavirus illness, that's when wearing a mask could be helpful for protecting those around you.

So, why has it changed so often and goes back and forth so many times?

Anonymous said...

Exactly!!

I am sorry guys, but it looks like Cobb County might have a new Sheriff come November.. I am praying that this doesn't help him lose the election. Not saying that he is the best man, but I am worried to see what Owens would do as Sheriff. Scary to think if the Chairman loses to Cupid. She is the wrong person for the job. Boyce isn't much better, but at least he supports LEO!

From the MDJ:

In a blow to embattled Cobb Sheriff Neil Warren, the county's Fraternal Order of Police lodge says it has endorsed his opponent, Cobb Police Major Craig Owens, a Democrat, in November's general election.

Jimmy Stephens, the lodge’s treasurer, posted the following on the group’s Facebook page:

“Between August 5th and August 12th lodge members were given the opportunity to vote for the candidate to endorse for Sheriff of Cobb County. Both candidates appeared at the monthly meeting on August 5th to talk to our members. Videos of both addressing the members were placed on our Facebook page for all to review. On August 5th I also posted on this page for members to check their e-mails for the link to the online balloting. As a result of the voting, Craig Owens received the majority of the votes for endorsement. Thus Lodge 13 is endorsing Craig Owens for Sheriff of Cobb County.”
