Wow. Everyone must be happy. Since No comments, I will make up for it with a bit of a rant.. Well, not happy. Half of the beats were open AGAIN today. Ppl should be able to take A/L or S/L and not leave half of the beats open. Not mad at supervisors, NOT their fault. I have never believed in suing anyone, but my wife has been informed to sue sue sue if it is shown that I got hurt or killed because I didnt have backup, when i should have. This has been going on way way too long. The County commissioners have been told how to fix this. In the end it will have be less expensive to do the right thing, instead they will pay out millions and millions to officer's families due to the county's neglect. Add that factor to the general lack of interest in LE, and no one will be applying. Ppl still leaving every chance they get. They will continue to leave, as I will, if I make it. As usual money for so many things, but not enough for pay, or to draw in new ppl to over come the other same old issues of recruitment and retention. SAME OLD POLITICIANS, SAYING THE SAME OLD STUFF.....PUBLIC SAFETY.. FIRST. The things you have done over the last few years have been industry standards for YEARS. You are just bring our level to NEAR industry level. If you want quality applicants, you must provide an above average package. Oh "we are one of the top paying counties". That is not the answer. Correct answer is...we ARE the top paying. Few want to do this job as it is, raise the bar and make it as attractive as possible. You want to go "cooperate like" with the new retirement and such. Well when the cooperate world wants the best they give a better deal than their competitors. No doubt Delta did that. How do you get better pilots than United or AA? Same here. I like my job, most of the time. Social issues are VERY challenging, but that has never stopped a (career cop).. It is the conditions from my employer that are not satisfactory. The saddest part of all, I will be gone from here one day, retired or dead. And years from now some other officer will be saying the same thing. We knew from the beginning that the pay wasn't the best, the hours sucked, it's cold or hot or wet... some people would rather shoot us in the head than to even look at us. The horror, sadness, some times fun is all part of the job. We know that, we have stayed and stuck it out for many years. But as some of us get a little older, it becomes less and less worth it. We have already missed seeing our kids grow up. Had the divorce or divorcesssss. But try to convince a young person to go through all of that for the "package" being offered by the county? Good luck. As some point in the near future, the group of officers that are too old to leave, but too young to retire will be gone. That is a pretty large number... if you think it is hard to fill the beats now, wait until they are gone. WE LEAD OTHER FOLLOW. that use to mean something.. not so much any more. Not so much for anyone like me that has over 20years, but for the new guys and girls and for the citizen of this county that "expect the best". Commissioners, You need to step up the game hard and fast. When it hits hard and it will, in just a few short years, the roof will come crashing down. I Just hope I'm out of here before it does.

Why are we taking officers off the road to sit with prisoners at Grady Hospital ? I thought we have reserve officers. Wouldn't that be a better use of manpower.

That would make to much sense !!

I'm out!!! I gave this county a chance to change to a good retirement but that's not the case. I've bled for this county, and to have to work until I'm 65 and then live at the poverty line is unacceptable. I love everyone here (except the board of commissioners). Good luck to all of you and think of your families, because the county is not!!!
