So Chief, why can a Lieutenant driving an unmarked car in Zone 1 pursue entering auto suspects at 100 mph down the interstate with lights and siren and not face any disciplinary action?

I'd like to know how you plan to discipline another officer for the same conduct this lieutenant displayed and got away with. It's a well known fact our chase policy is a joke and only promotes more crime. I get it that liability is a huge crutch with this department and many others but somebody eventually will have to grow a pair and make the tough decisions to show criminals they aren't gonna get away by simply not stopping. If we aren't chasing for certain crimes then why are we bothering to take the report?

Anonymous,

I saw your comments on June 1st. On that date, I discussed this concern with the appropriate commander. He will be looking into the allegation. As always, feel free to contact me through normal business channels with any thoughts or concerns. You even have the options of typing an anonymous letter to me and submitting it thru interdepartmental mail. I would prefer these methods over discussing departmental policy and procedures on the internet.

Do we really have a female right now have her time in the academy extended because she couldn't pass the PT test to get out into FTO phase? I hope there is extenuating circumstances, such as injuries or illness, that is a factor. I hope we haven't lowered our standards to the point we would let someone out of PT enough that they got in worse physical shape while in the academy. Someone please enlighten us and put this rumor to bed.

Anonymous, after looking into your comments, I made inquiries and have been told that there is an injury that impacts this situation. The PT standards have not been lowered.

Please feel free to call me with any further concerns about this.

With all the hatred against police going on, when will the county put up secured parking for officers at precincts and secured entry to the training center? I hope we become proactive in this and not reactive.

If you want to improve morale then take an honest look at the leadership. CIR's are now on record for three years yet the ratio of good to bad CIR's is not appropriate, and this is not because officers are performing poorly, it is because most Sgt's rarely use them in a positive manner. Hold leadership accountable for their attitudes and their treatment of the officers they are meant to lead. Any Sergeant, Lt., Capt., and up reading this think back to when you were an officer and consider this: Are you the kind of leader now that you wanted then?

Hold leadership accountable for how they treat their officers. Once you become a Sergeant it is time to stop treating everyone like a perp (your officers), it is time to understand your job is to ensure your officers have everything they need to succeed and to be the leader who has their back when stuff comes rolling downhill.
