If you haven't had a chance to view it yet, there is a good column in the Marietta Daily Journal by Mike Boyce. The column details some of the issues facing the Police Department and seems to hint that public support is growing as we expected it would.

Did you ever think DeKalb would surpass Cobb in benefits? Here it is in black and white:
The 2014 budget provides funding for 160 new police officers and 100 new firefighters. It also restores promotional pay increases for officers that assumed additional responsibilities over the years. To improve morale and reduce the attrition rate, which has exceeded the hire rate for several years, the budge also calls for a new tuition reimbursement program for fire and police officers and additional funding for take home vehicles for police officers.
“There is funding for 100 additional cars for DeKalb County police officers,” Commissioner Elaine Boyer said. “While it is true that our police car fleet is aging to the point of being dangerous, our current take home car policy allows vehicles 35 miles outside of DeKalb County.
As the elections approach I'd like to mention a very important fact. Tim Lee has been seen several times with Bob Weatherford. Mr. Weatherford will be running for a commission seat being vacated. Lee and Ott seem to vote together and the addition of Weatherford would give them the majority for every vote the board makes. They would then steam roll every vote in the direction they dictate. Food for thought.
You need to be looking at Bill Byrne to replace Goreham. Say what you will about him, I know none of them are perfect bit he did more for public safety when he was Chairman than anyone. We didn't get everything that was asked for and never will but we got a lot. His wife is a long time county employee so he gets it. And, I can guarantee you this he won't be intimidated or steam rolled by Tim Lee and he knows Hankerson and all of his little tricks too.
